University Assistant Director, Administration and Regional Campus Operations
The University of Connecticut is seeking applications for an Assistant Director to manage and supervise the administrative and maintenance operations at the regional campuses as well as operating and capital budgets for the main campus and the 5 regional campuses. The Assistant Director participates in policy development and implementation at all campuses and is responsible for hiring, evaluation, training, and promotion for all direct reports involved in fiscal, administrative and facilities operations and maintenance.
Qualifications include a minimum of 10 years experience and demonstrated skills in managing facilities maintenance operations, including five years in a large maintenance, or utility group or organization; considerable knowledge of administrative systems, financial management and government accounting; considerable knowledge of building materials and codes; environmental regulations; contract preparation; experience supervising and managing a staff; and the ability to work in a large campus setting or similar environment. A Master’s degree in business, engineering or architecture is desirable.
Salary range $90,000-95,000 commensurate with background and experience.

Facilities Manager (Facilities Professional IV - UCPX)
The University of Connecticut is seeking an experienced Facilities Manager to manage, plan and coordinate maintenance and renovation services at the Storrs Campus. This individual will also prepare specifications and estimates, manage outside contractors and an in-house unionized crew of 65 people. In addition, successful candidate will oversee operating budgets for nine departments, review project drawings and assist in the implementation of the master facilities plan. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Maintenance & Renovation Services.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline (Master’s preferred) or equivalent combination of education/experience and a minimum of 10 years experience and demonstrated skills in managing facilities maintenance operations, construction projects and personnel. Experience working in a higher education environment and knowledge of building safety and health codes are highly desired. Anticipated starting salary range $70,000-$79,000, commensurate with background and experience.

Energy Engineer (Facilities Professional II - UCP VII)
Facilities Operations is seeking a Utilities Energy Engineer to help manage power plant equipment dispatch, energy supply sourcing and billing. This position is responsible for being the University’s supply side energy expert by analyzing current energy production, developing the energy supply plan, and ensuring a complete understanding of customer usage profiles. The Energy Engineer will be responsible for managing the daily energy delivery process of the plant, improving plant control, energy supply and distribution with an emphasis on tracking and billing of energy production and distribution. Similar support will be required for all University campuses.
Duties include: create utility rates and use these rates for cost allocation with full responsibility for the metering system that allocates utility costs as well as the creation of the billing. Generate and submit to management charts, reports, graphs, trends, etc… which depict results and information as needed; develop policies and systems for buying energy and participate in contract negotiations as well as implement policies established by federal and state law agencies in the area of energy production; review energy purchase agreements and make recommendations regarding energy fuel selection; work constructively with others to pursue an aggressive program to reduce energy costs; compile utility budgets and energy conservation measure cost estimates based upon needs; responsible for bill auditing and tracking for all main campus utility bills and other auxiliary bills; compile, maintain, and file energy reports, billings, and other documents as required; provide regular reports as to the overall effectiveness of energy production and usage; and be responsible for utility distribution engineering support, conditional maintenance needs as well as capacity analysis, planning and utilities master planning, to include systems such as steam, condensate, chill water, electrical, and potable water and others.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, engineering technology, business or related field with emphasis on power plant operations or an equivalent combination of related experience and training in plant operations; five years of experience in plant operations or maintenance as well as plant system design, and/or maintenance, or closely related field; considerable knowledge of power plant operations and protocols; proficiency using computers and programs such as MS Office Excel and Access; significant experience in data management including ability to analyze data and create complex spreadsheets and visual presentations of data; an understanding of utility billing; demonstrated engineering ability to troubleshoot plant mechanical and operational problems; excellent organizational skills; ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing; good interpersonal skills; ability to work with little supervision and resolve problems of both a technical and administrative nature.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in large generation plant(s); experience managing large energy spend ($20-30 million); experience as a data historian; experience supervising technical personnel; knowledge of accounting, finance and/or budgetary control as related to billing; knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations; experience in a position with financial accountability and/or financial analysis responsibilities; ability to analyze business/industry trends. Anticipated starting salary range $58,000-$63,000, commensurate with background and experience.
