Part of the Energy Conservation Program is the tracking and capturing of energy use and cost data across the UConn campuses. Facilities Operations utilizes this information to make decisions about projects and energy sources as we move towards the goal of carbon neutrality in 2030. The data presented below is pulled from the Utility Metering system, EnergyCap, managed by our Energy Efficiency (EE) professionals.

Additionally we are exploring other sources of green energy including adding solar to new construction such as the Science 1 building!

Scope 1, 2, & 3 Emissions

Greenhouse gas emissions includes 3 levels of emissions. These are Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions:

Scope 1: Direct GHG emissions that occur from sources that are controlled or owned by an organization

  • Co-gen, SUP, Stand Alone boilers, Generators, Fertilizers, and Animals.

Scope 2: indirect GHG emissions associated with the purchase of electricity steam heat or cooling

  • Eversource

Scope 3: the result of activities from assets not owned or controlled by the reporting organization, but that the organization indirectly affects in its value chain.

  • Business travel/ Commuting, Life Cycle Reporting (LCR)
