Public Works
The Public Works team maintains more than 150 miles of underground systems including heating steam, condensate, cooling (chilled water), potable water, reclaimed water, sewer, and storm sewer distribution lines. In addition to normal and emergency maintenance, the Public Works team routinely works on construction projects of varying sizes to support the growth and expansion of the University's distribution systems. The Public Works team also collaborates with Connecticut Water and partners with other Facilities Management divisions on sustainability and reliability initiatives such as working with our water pollution plant on reusing our water (Water Reclaim Facilities) this water is distributed to special campus buildings for research / watering fields. The Public Works team maintains steam pits on campus including underground tunnel utility systems. Lastly Public Works also helps maintain off campus large well water systems that supply our Storrs campus, Downtown Mansfield, as well as 24 /7 support services year-round including severe weather plowing and sanding keeping our campus open and safe.
