University Mail Services restricts collection/distribution to mail items only. Freight, supplies, records, etc. are handled by Central Stores.

USPS in-bound mail and internally generated mail is sorted by 10 a.m., Departure for mail delivery to the departments is at 10:30 a.m., residence halls are serviced after 1 p.m.

USPS out-bound mail requiring postage is processed for pick-up by the USPS at 2:30 p.m. and the remainder of posted mail leaves UMS at 3:45 p.m., the last run of the day. If you have missed the “3:45” truck, you may bring out-bound mail to UMS by 4:00 p.m. to obtain postage and then take the mail to the Post Office in Storrs. The USPS closes at 5:00 p.m.

Courier Service to UConn Hartford, the UConn Health Center, School of Social Work, School of Law, MBA Program Downtown, Legislative Office Building and several other locations, is provided by Central Stores. This mail is sorted and prepared at UMS for pick-up by the Stores courier each morning. Questions regarding this service should be directed to Central Stores at 6-6297.

Residence Halls/Student Mail – UMS delivers USPS, UPS, Fed-Ex, mail and UConn-generated Student mail to residence hall mailrooms Monday – Friday afternoons. US Postal Express mail packages due for delivery on Saturdays will not be delivered until Monday. Students who would like to pick up Express Mail Packages on Saturdays from the Storrs Post Office should call the Post Office at 860-429-9681 on Saturdays between 8 – 9:30am to have them hold it aside for pickup. UMS scans all trackable mail before delivery to Residence Hall Mailrooms, and obtains a signature when required. University Mail Services does NOT service student mail. Department Mail – The University requires all faculty and staff to receive their personal mail at home or permanent address. Occasional correspondence from friends and colleagues is not considered personal mail.
